Frequency and Analysis of Risk Factors for Fungal Infections in Lung Cancer Patients

Lung cancer remains a major cause of cancer-related mortality globally. Fungal infections represent a serious complication in lung cancer patients, potentially affecting treatment outcomes and survival. However, data on their frequency and associated risk factors are limited, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the frequency and analyze risk factors for fungal infections in lung cancer patients at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar. A cross-sectional design was used, with secondary data obtained from patient medical records and primary data

QTc Prolongation Risks in Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis: A Closer Look at Contributing Factors

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) presents treatment challenges due to the toxicity of prolonged multidrug regimens, particularly the risk of QTc interval prolongation and arrhythmias. This study aimed to identify factors associated with QTc prolongation in DR-TB patients. A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients treated at RS Labuang Baji and RS Tajuddin Chalid Makassar between January 2020 and December 2024. Included were patients over 16 years with complete ECG and lab data, excluding those with baseline QTc >450 ms or concurrent QT-prolonging medications. QTc was calculated usi

Relationship Of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 Levels In Non Small Cell Lung Carcinoma Response Therapy

Lung cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Elevated levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) have been associated with poor prognosis and therapy resistance. This study investigated the relationship between serum IGF-1 levels and treatment response in NSCLC patients. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar, from September to November 2024, involving newly diagnosed, histopathologically confirmed NSCLC patients who provided informed consent. Patients with ot

Analysis of the Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratio on 90-Day Mortality Following Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) remains a significant global health concern, with acute exacerbations contributing substantially to increased mortality. The platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) has emerged as a simple inflammatory marker with potential prognostic utility; however, its role in predicting 90-day mortality among Indonesian patients with COPD has not been well established. This prospective cohort study included 81 hospitalized COPD patients aged 40 years or older from July 2024 to February 2025. PLR levels were measured upon admission, and patient survival was evaluated

Evaluation of the Fracture Resistance of Endodontically Treated Teeth Restored with Ribbon Fibers (an in vitro study)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of maxillary premolars restored with direct EverX composite and Ribbond fibers, and to compare the results with those of natural, untreated teeth. The sample consisted of 30 freshly extracted maxillary premolars, obtained for orthodontic purposes from the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Aleppo. All teeth were free of cracks and caries. They were mounted in custom acrylic molds. Twenty teeth underwent endodontic treatment and MOD cavity preparation. Of these, ten teeth were restored using direct EverX
