Assessing Tyg Index and Dietary Intake During Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer Patients

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Indonesian women. Chemotherapy has side effects that affect the patients’ dietary intake. The triglyceride glucose index (Tyg Index) is a marker for assessing insulin resistance in breast cancer. Insulin resistance is related to insulin receptors’ activation. This study aims to assess TyG index and dietary intake during chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. This observational, prospective cohort study conducted with 37 adult women with breast cancer at Hasanuddin University Hospital and Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Makassar from September 2024

Optimization of Medical Nutrition Therapy in Malnourished Patients with Respiratory Disorders Due to Guillain-Barré Syndrome: A Case Series

Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute autoimmune disorder that can cause severe muscle weakness and respiratory complications requiring comprehensive care, including nutritional support. The hypermetabolic and hypercatabolic state induced by GBS increases the dietary needs of patients, making nutritional therapy an important component of the GBS patient care plan. To determine the results of respiratory disorder analysis in Guillain-Barré Syndrome patients receiving medical nutrition therapy. This is a case series study with a longitudinal, retrospective design involving patients with

The Correlation Between Waist, Thigh, and Calf Circumference with HOMA-IR Values in Obese Young Adults

Obesity is defined by excessive body fat accumulation and is a major risk factor for insulin resistance, which can lead to metabolic issues like type 2 diabetes. While waist circumference is commonly used to assess central obesity and related metabolic risks, the role of thigh and calf circumference in evaluating lower extremity fat distribution is less studied, particularly in obese young adults. These measurements are considered indicators of subcutaneous and intramuscular fat in the lower limbs, each with distinct metabolic characteristics. Fat accumulation in these areas may have higher li

The Correlation Between Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio and Quality of Life in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in women and the leading cause of death in women in the world. Chemotherapy is currently one of the therapeutic modalities used in the management of breast cancer; chemotherapy affects energy expenditure and causes a decrease in physical activity ability, which results in a decrease in quality of life. The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been investigated as a prognostic indicator for various cancers. NLR reflects the systemic inflammatory status associated with clinical conditions that impact quality of life. This study is a prospective coho

Correlation of Prognostic Nutritional Index To Quality of Life Of Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

Breast cancer is the most common cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Chemotherapy, a vital treatment for breast cancer, can alter energy expenditure and decrease physical activity, negatively impacting quality of life. The Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) has been identified as a prognostic marker for various solid tumors, including breast cancer. This prospective cohort observational study assessed PNI and quality of life in 37 breast cancer patients at Hasanuddin University Hospital and Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar, from September 2024 to Ma
