Topical Lactobacillus plantarum as a Skin Barrier Repair and Sebum Regulation in Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition common in children, marked by impaired skin barrier function, reduced ceramide levels, and altered lipid composition. This randomized, double-blind controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effect of topical Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) lotion on ceramide levels, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and sebum production in pediatric AD. A total of 46 patients received LP lotion (1000 CFU/g) on the left forearm and placebo on the right, applied twice daily for four weeks. Ceramide levels were measured using tape-stripping and ELISA; TEWL

The role bronchial washing of TNF-a as prognostic biomarker of advance stage of NSCLC

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 85% of all cases. Despite advancements in treatment, the prognosis remains poor, particularly in advanced stages. Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α), a key pro-inflammatory cytokine, has been implicated in cancer progression and prognosis. This study aims to evaluate TNF-α levels as a prognostic biomarker in NSCLC. This prospective cohort study included NSCLC patients diagnosed at RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar from April 2022 to March 2023. TNF-α levels were measured in bronchoa

Utilization of Bronchoscopy for Diagnosis in Clinically Suspected Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients: A Diagnostic Study in Multiple Tertiary Hospitals in Indonesia

This study evaluates the diagnostic value of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) compared to sputum sampling in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), specifically focusing on acid-fast bacilli (AFB) staining, rapid molecular testing (RMT), and histopathological examination. We retrospectively analyzed 124 suspected pulmonary TB patients who underwent bronchoscopy—collected data encompassed demographic, clinical, radiological, microbiological, and pathological findings. The definitive diagnosis was based on bacteriological results obtained post-bronchoscopy. Results indicated that RMT of sputum had

Effectiveness of 20% Olive Cream in Reducing Skin Dryness in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients

Chronic Kidney Disease on Hemodialysis (CKD-HD) is still at a high prevalence, with xerosis cutis as its major dermatologic complication.
