Association Between Heart Rate Variability Parameters with Cognitive Performance in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic stroke is a major cause of disability, with cognitive dysfunction as a frequent complication. Autonomic nervous system (ANS) imbalance, reflected by heart rate variability (HRV), has been linked to post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between HRV parameters and cognitive function in acute ischemic stroke patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar in 2025. Acute ischemic stroke patients with onset < 7 days were recruited. HRV parameters were assessed using time-domain (SDNN, RMSSD), fr

ASSOCIATION BETWEEN METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION – ASSOCIATED STEATOTIC LIVER DISEASE (MASLD) WITH THE INCIDENT OF SARCOPENIA IN ELDERLY PATIENTS

To analyze the association between MASLD (Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease) and incident sarcopenia in elderly patients. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar, Indonesia, from June to July 2025. A total of 78 patients aged ≥60 years were enrolled using consecutive sampling. Sarcopenia was assessed using handgrip strength test, 5-times chair stand test (CST-5), and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. MASLD was associated with a 1.45-fold increased

Exploring the experience of female family caregivers of cervical cancer patients

Cervical cancer remains a significant public health issue worldwide, profoundly influencing the lives of numerous women. A cancer diagnosis affects the patient and often causes family members to make sacrifices to serve as caregivers, playing an essential role in addressing the care requirements of their loved ones battling cervical cancer. Consequently, this study sought to explore the experiences of family caregivers who provide support to women diagnosed with cervical cancer. The research uses a qualitative study, incorporating semi-structured interviews with fourteen selected female caregi

Enhancing Death Documentation in Lung Cancer: Lessons from a Clinical Pathway Audit on Multi-Causal Mortality

Accurate mortality data analysis is essential for public health as it informs policy and clinical practice. Clinical pathways (CP) ensure standardized patient identification and management, while multiple causes of death (MCOD) reporting provides a broader understanding of complex mortality patterns. However, incomplete or inconsistent documentation of causes of death may lead to epidemiological bias as well as legal and ethical consequences. This analytical observational study used a retrospective cohort design at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital from January to December 2024. Data from 209

Comparison of Adjunct Nasal Irrigation Therapy with Isotonic vs Hypertonic Saline Solution in Allergic Rhinitis Patients: A Double-Blind RCT Study

Nasal irrigation is widely recommended as an adjunctive therapy in allergic rhinitis (AR), but the comparative efficacy of isotonic versus hypertonic saline remains debated. This study aimed to evaluate their effects on symptoms, mucociliary clearance, and eosinophilic inflammation in patients with persistent AR. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in 40 AR patients, divided equally into isotonic and hypertonic saline groups. Irrigation was performed twice daily for four weeks. Outcomes included Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores for rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction, sneezing, and itching a
